Update – Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

We want to provide a quick update about the 2019 novel coronavirus. Per the CDC, to date there have been eleven confirmed cases in the United States. For the general American public the immediate health risk is still considered low despite the fact that the World Health Organization has declared this outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. This development does not impact our standard infectious disease protocols – which should continue to be closely followed – and normal operations should continue at your facilities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and your local/state health department should continue to be the primary source for guidance and timely updates on the virus. Our facilities need to stay sharply focused on patient care, so please engage and lean on the health department to provide community education and be the local voice around this issue.

Note that all patient registration systems are in the process of being updated with new screening tools to help your clinical teams properly evaluate patients upon arrival. We are working on materials to help address the 2019 novel coronavirus with key audiences, including employees, providers and patients.

Thank you for your continued diligence in maintaining patient care and safety.
